Ryan & Sam flew all the way from New York City to visit Cape Town with the goal to summit Table Mountain.
How they Met
“Ryan and I met 8 years ago during our freshman year of college. He was on the soccer team and I was on the lacrosse team so our paths always crossed. Soon after we met, we began dating and things only got better from there!”
Sam can probably tell this proposal story better than i could ever, so here are her words:
“Ryan and I have been planning to go on a big trip for almost 1 year and we finally decided on going to South Africa! It was a dream of Ryan’s to go on a safari and I quickly jumped at the opportunity to book this trip while making time to visit Cape Town as well.
We both knew we wanted to hike Table Mountain, one of the new natural 7 Wonders of the World, and Ryan told me he had gotten a guide to help us hike and take photographs during our second day there. The three of us set off on the hike at 5:30am and began up this incredible mountain during the most beautiful sunrise. Two and a half hours (and many photographs later), we reached the summit and Ryan proposed at the top of the mountain literally in the clouds! Our “hiking guide” (or so I thought!) was actually a professional photographer who hiked with us specifically to capture the entire experience!
Ryan later told me that he had been planning the surprise proposal with this photographer for 7 months before the moment finally came to get down on one knee!”
I photographed the whole hike with my Fujifilm xpro2 and the 23mm f2 and 35mm f2. Shooting with this compact system was perfect for this surprise proposal.
