We rushed all the way home to back these photos up and couldn’t help but start editing right away. It is now 3am and we still can’t stop… we love how these images turned out. Iulia & Charles are just such awesome humans that the session didn’t even feel like work, it felt like we were documenting our friends and their big puppy fooling around and getting ready.
We already had so much fun at their engagement shoot, so we knew we were in for a treat and boy, oh boy were we treated. First off the venue was breathtaking, the small details and clever twists that made even their seating plan uniquely them. The lights, the cake, the burger bar, the ice lolly stand… I mean, everything down to the copper tones, rose gold cutlery and copper piping in the bride’s hair made this seem like we were photographing a styled shoot for a wedding inspiration album. To top it off, their giant Great Dane puppy, August was loping around the venue with a GoPro strapped to his torso and saying hi to all the guests. Like I said – treat!
Iulia made such a beautiful bride. She was calm, collected and really enjoying her day. It was such an easy task photographing her special moments with her mom, sister and friends as they were having such a genuinely great time getting ready. Not a breathe of stress in the air. I loved that Iulia decided to do a bridal reveal, not only with her father, but with her bridesmaids as well. The squeals of delight and tears when they finally saw her fully made up and in her dress were too cute. The groomsmen were all in different states of undress when we arrived to take their portraits. Most of them were topless with only a bow-tie on. Charles was very dapper and even managed to get his one groomsmen to serenade us on the piano before heading out to greet his guests. This resulted in quite a different tone & feel to the men’s portraits compared to the ladies, but both sessions were equally picture perfect.
Iulia and Charles had written their own vows and when they exchanged these under a tree… heartfelt, sincere and endearingly similar, there wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd. They had also set aside roughly an hour after the ceremony to catch up, play games, indulge in the gin & tonic ice lollies and be merry with their guests before their couple portrait session, and it was a brilliant way to wind down from the excitement of the ceremony and really celebrate their nuptials with their friends.
Now onto the couple session. This is when I start gushing about how lucky we are to have such a seriously goodlooking couple. I mean, can you even handle?! The couple session was magical, we kept oohing and aahing after each snap and exposure that Charles couldn’t help laughing at us. But for real, I challenge you not to ooh or aah when you see these love birds kiss as the sun sets in the horizon. It is a difficult task. We also managed to finish our roll of film during this portrait session – can you spot which is film and which is digital?
Once again, thank you Iulia & Charles for entrusting the task of capturing these memories to us, thank you to your warm family for being so welcoming and kind, for having crazy friends that gave us even crazier reception shots and of course, thank you for letting us into your life at such an important moment. We loved every second of it! Here is just a tiny glimpse of the day.
